Tennis great Serena Williams was one of Wozniacki's bridesmaids. NBL basketball stars Pau Gasol and Harrison Barnes and former number one tennis player Angelique Kerber were among the guests.
Former Number One female tennis player Caroline Wozniacki has married former NBA All-Star David Lee in front of 120 family and friends in Italy.
The wedding of Caroline Wozniacki, 28, the 2018 Australian Open champion, and 36-year-old David Lee, who won an NBA championship in 2015 with Golden State Warriors and was a two-time All-Star and an All-NBA Team member, took place at Castiglion del Bosco in Italy, the venue where the Sports Illustrated model and actress Kate Upton married Major League baseball player Justin Verlander, of the Houston Astros, in 2017.
The intimate ceremony was the culmination of a weekend that was all about understated elegance in a setting straight out of a fairytale, with a flawless wedding wardrobe to boot — the highlight of which was the bride’s Oscar de la Renta gown, embroidered with Lyon lace and worn with a classic cathedral-length tulle veil, Vogue reported.
“Best weekend of my life,” Wozniacki said on Instagram.
Tennis rival but off-court friend Serena Williams served as one of Wozniacki’s bridesmaids, Vogue reported. Other guests included NBA players Pau Gasol and Harrison Barnes, former NFL player Jesse Palmer, and former Number One women’s tennis player Angelique Kerber. Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian also attended.
The pair were engaged in November 2017 when Lee popped the question with an 8.88-carat ring in Bora Bora, a small South Pacific island northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia.
“I had just won Singapore, the last event of the year, and we went to Bora Bora on vacation, and he said that he didn’t know when he was going to propose, but that he had the ring, and it’s burning in my bag, it’s burning in my pocket so I need to do it,” she told Vogue. “He set up this sunset cruise with a dinner on a private island, and on the cruise, there was this guy with a small guitar playing music and all of a sudden, I saw David panic, and he goes to his backpack and starts searching for something, and I said: ‘What’s happening?!’ and he’s like ‘Oh nothing!’ Then, he grabs the box with the ring and he goes down on one knee, and he proposes. Whatever he said I don’t remember – I was kind of in shock. When I panic, I start laughing, and I wasn’t expecting it so I started laughing and said, ‘Of course, yes.’ And he was like, ‘Is that a yes?’ And I was like: ‘Yes!’ It was right at sunset, and it was beautiful!”
Wozniacki was previously engaged for five years to Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy from 2011 to 2014.
It is shaping up to be a whirlwind honeymoon for the World No. 14, who is scheduled to compete in the Eastbourne Tennis Championships the week before Wimbledon in the UK.
Wozniacki also has to find time to keep her 1.1 million followers on Instagram entertained.
