Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin, the second youngest leader of a country in the world, announced on Sunday that she had married her longtime partner and former Finland football player, Markus Räikkönen.

Sanna Marin, 34, and Räikkönen, also 34, have been together 16 years and have a two-year-old daughter Emma Amalia Marin together.

Marin, who was praised for managing her country’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, posted an announcement on Instagram and wrote “of all the people, you’re right for me” to Räikkönen.

Marin became Prime Minister of Finland on 10 December 2019 and has been a politician since 2015. At the age of 34, she became Finland’s youngest-ever prime minister, and was the youngest serving state leader in the world until Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz regained the title in January 2020. He celebrates her 34th birthday later this month.

Finland’s government tweeted a wedding photo of Marin and Räikkönen at Kesäranta, the official prime minister’s residence. According to the government’s website, the couple’s close friends and family attended.

“Yesterday we said to each other I will,” Marin said in one of the Instagram posts.

“I am happy and grateful that I get to share my life with the man I love. We have seen and experienced a lot together, shared joys and sorrows, and supported each other at the bottom and in the storm.

“We have lived together in our youth, grown up and grown older to our beloved daughter. Of all the people, you’re right for me. Thank you for being by my side.”
