The US is reeling after another mass shooting, this time at a country music bar in Thousand Oaks, California.
At least 12 people have died in the attack, which occurred around 11.20PM on 7 October local time.
Several other people sustained injuries as they fled the attack. 21 people had been treated and released by local hospitals with some of the victims who sustained minor injuries admitting themselves to hospital.
The gunman shot a security guard at the venue and a staff member working just inside the door before opening fire on people in the bar.
“They ran out of the back doors, they broke windows. They went through windows. They hid up in the attic, they hid in the bathroom,” Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said.

The Californian shooting comes just two weeks after the Pennsylvania synagogue massacre
Local police officers arrived on the scene within minutes and the found the gunman was already dead. He is thought to have killed himself.
Police have identified the gunman as a 28-year-old who had served in the US Marine Corps between 2008 and 2013. He was known to law enforcement, who had attended a domestic disturbance at his home earlier this year.
The shooter used a legally purchased .45-caliber Glock handgun in the attack. The gun had been modified by an illegally extended magazine.

CNN has reported that the California massacre is the fourth attack on a ‘soft target’ in just two weeks. Such attacks take place in everyday locations with little security.
On 27 October, 11 people were murdered while attending Shabbat services at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Six other people, including four police officers, were injured in the massacre.
In another attack, two shoppers were killed at a supermarket in Jefferson, Kentucky. That shooting is now being investigated as a hate crime.
Yet another shooting happened at a yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida on 2 November. Two women at the studio were killed and another four people suffered injuries.
Remarkably, some of those present at the Borderline Bar shooting had also survived the Las Vegas massacre.
I have been fully briefed on the terrible shooting in California. Law Enforcement and First Responders, together with the FBI, are on scene. 13 people, at this time, have been reported dead. Likewise, the shooter is dead, along with the first police officer to enter the bar….
