The charities you told Meghan Markle and Prince Harry about on Instagram

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry this month asked their followers to nominate their favourite charities and they would endorse them on their Instagram account SussexRoyal.

“Highlight various causes, people or organisations doing amazing things for their communities and the world at large”, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle said.

The comments boxes were flooded with responses and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who usually select charities based around a theme.

“Many of you have suggested that we use this month as an opportunity to highlight lesser known organisations and shine a light on those working hard behind the scenes that may not get the level of attention that they so rightly deserve. These accounts showcase those persevering at the grassroots level, connecting our global community through a shared lens of giving back and helping one another,” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wrote.

Love the Oceans
LTO Conservation is a charity in Mozambique enabling marine conservation through research, education and diving.

Here at Love The Oceans our organisation is split in half between scientific marine research and community outreach work, and we pride ourselves on a holistic approach. This is because the Marine Protected Area we’re working to establish will be community managed and we’re using a bottom-up approach. There has to be a community with the skill set to be able to manage the MPA effectively, so our educational outreach is essential, and the MPA will be established through effective and multi-pronged research that allows us to lobby for comprehensive conservation measures to protect the amazing flora and fauna in this incredible region. . . . #forcesforchange #lovetheoceans #ocean #nonprofit #nonprofitorganization #volunteer #volunteering #volunteerabroad #volunteerafrica #africa #mozambique #ecotourism #gapyear #community #culture #explore #travel #scubadiving #bigblue #ourblueplanet #sussexroyal #forceforchange

Rafiki Mwema

The charity, founded by Sarah Rosborg and Anne-Marie Tipper, is housing 70 Kenyan children as young as 18 months old who have suffered horrific abuse, often at the hands of those they trust most at therapeutic houses, known as Doyle Farm. They have also helped re-establish a further 150 children back into their home community via the Rafiki Mwema Outreach Programme.

What a whirlwind 🌬 Thanks to our personal PR team consisting of one of our directors who is a Mum and business owner herself, Claire at @barefruitmarketing who has been taking calls non stop and arranging interviews, newspapers, online and TV meetings for myself (Sarah) with all of this @sussexroyal chaos. A wonderful chaos!! (Harry & Megs, how can we ever thank you guys!?) There is so much attention coming our way.. of course I will talk all day/night about Rafiki to anyone who will listen and this has been my problem/passion for years! Dreams are coming true 🙌🏾 and the work we are doing and the change that is happening with the therapy we use and love we give is finally being seen by so many more. IMAGINE if this healing could go further than our homes in Kenya. It can! Sarah is available in Australian for any media. Any time. Anne Marie and Peter are available in the UK for media anytime and will be in Australia from Aug 16. Please DM or go to our website to get number for Claire to arrange. Let’s speak up and change the world! 😍 how amazing is my daughter in this photo. She was so excited to go to the radio station with me. She shares me with so many so I love when she can do some fun things with me. Next excitement for her is… ‘Mummy is going on TV!!’ ..side note. All of these ideas/changes need money, so that’s the aim of the game. Anne Marie has the skills and INCREDIBLE talent in what she does but we can’t continue on without funds. We need sponsors/companies who want to see this change to help us continue this work. Fully tax deductible in Australia. 🙏🏼 #rafikimwema

Lion Guardians

Conservation organisation that promotes coexistence between people and lions.

The 2019 Lion Guardians Games – or Guardians Naboishu – is in the books, and we’re all still reeling from the joy we felt and the progress we made as a team. This year, we focused on activities to help us work together…with some friendly competition thrown in for good measure! By the end of the festivities, we had gained deeper insight, new knowledge, and stronger connections with the extended Lion Guardians family.⠀ ⠀ Thanks to the participants that joined us from near and far, and those that worked so hard to make this year’s Guardians Naboishu such a great success! In particular, we want to send a big Lion Guardians hug to Ecosys, whose generous support helped make the event possible.⠀ ⠀ #naboishu #conservation #teamwork #thankyou #lions⠀ ⠀ Image by

Pawsitive Change Program

A Marleys Mutts program pairing shelter dogs with inmates in California Prisons. Giving both a 2nd chance at life on the outside. Fighting recidivism

View this post on Instagram

Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up! With this program we aim to help restore dignity and acceptance to the incarcerated. We forget their punishment is to be incarcerated, not to be burdened with prejudice and discrimination for the rest of our lives. We aim to showcase the talent, humility, empathy, love and acts of service which exist behind bars. If/when these men get through a decade or more in prison, they deserve to have a path to humanity and redemption. We hope to help provide that path by giving them the necessary tools to seek opportunity within the pet/rescue industry. The tools they gain within this program go far beyond vocational, but I can assure you that as they pursue becoming better people, they’re also becoming talented dog trainers and rescuers! We have four programs ready to go online as soon as we have the financial resources to do so, including our first women’s/federal program at Victorville! By supporting our program, you’re supporting second chances for those in the greatest need—incarcerated pets and people. We hope you’ll support our program and help us become the foremost industry leader in canine/prison rehabilitation!

Waves for Change

We love this moment from the @wavesforchange safe space in Harper, Liberia. Harper is on the border between Ivory Coast and Liberia. In 2017 we started training a local team to transform the beachfront at Harper into a safe surf therapy hub. Surfing had never existed in Harper before. Today, over 150 children use the beach each week. A team of 8 local coaches, lead by W4C Liberia manager Mr Ross (pictured) deliver surf therapy programmes that combine surfing with evidence-based mind/body therapy. This week, our Liberian team come to Cape Town for an annual exchange. We love working with ocean-side communities across Africa to turn beaches into locally owned safe spaces. #wavesforchange #surftherapy #africa #sussexroyal
