Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has walked her first red carpet as a royal, meeting Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z at the European premiere of the new film The Lion King in Leicester Square, London.
The 37-year-old Los Angeles-born Duchess, who was with husband Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, wore a stunning US$4,341 mid-length black gown with a sheer panel across the top of the bodice and sleeves, by designer Jason Wu.
Beyoncé, who wore a stunning gold gown, voices Nala in the remake of the 1994 classic animated film.
Beyoncé and JAY-Z, who have three children – Blue Ivy, 7, and 2-year-old twins Rumi and Sir – engaged in a chat. After telling Meghan how nice it was to meet her, Beyoncé, also 37, was heard telling the royal, “that baby is so beautiful”, in videos posted on fan accounts.
“We love you guys.”
Meghan turned to introduce her husband Prince Harry, dressed in a dashing tuxedo, who greeted Beyoncé with a kiss on each cheek and Jay-Z with a handshake, Mail Online reported.
“You’ve been rather busy,” Harry said to Beyoncé.
“Congratulations on the birth of your baby,” Jay-Z said to the Prince and nodded towards Meghan.
“And how are the twins?” asked Prince Harry.
“They are not here. They don’t come on every trip,” replied Beyoncé. “We left them at home. They would love to have been here.”

Beyoncé and JAY-Z have previously expressed their admiration for Meghan. When the pair accepted their prize for Best International Group via video message at the 2019 Brit Awards, they recreated their music video for APES***.
Instead of posing in front of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, they stood in front of a regal portrait of the Duchess of Sussex wearing a sparkling crown and pearl necklaces.
Beyoncé, via Instagram, explained why they chose to use the photograph and congratulated Meghan on her pregnancy.
“In honour of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,” Beyoncé wrote. “Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left their nine-week-old son Archie at home for the movie premiere. After the event, the couple delighted their 9.1 million Instagram followers by sharing a gallery of images from the occasion.
The Duchess of Sussex accompanied the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, for the Women’s Singles Final when Simona Halep thrashed Serena Williams, to show a “united stand” amid unsubstantiated reports of friction between the pair.
