“We recorded the mother’s voice this morning and played the recording as if she were at the search site," said Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop, police chief of southern Negeri Sembilan state.
Malaysian police are using the desperate cries of the mother of 15-year-old Nóra Quoirin who went missing at a nature holiday resort where they were staying, 16kms from the town of Seremban.
“Nóra darling, I love you. Mom is here,” is the heart-breaking words from her mother Meabh Quoirin being played over a loudhailer as the searchers comb through the nearby rainforest, New Straits Times reported.
“We recorded the mother’s voice this morning and played the recording as if she were at the search site,” said Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop, police chief of southern Negeri Sembilan state.
“It is part of our efforts to find the victim because we believe she is still within the 6km-radius of the search parameters,” he said at Pantai police station.
The voices of other family members have also been recorded.
“The SAR operation is not only conducted along the normal tracks but also through difficult jungle areas.
“The use of drones is also ongoing but we are still unable to detect the victim,” he said.
More than 250 search and rescue personnel are trying to find evidence of the teenager’s movements in the forest.
Nóra, her parents Meabh and Sebastian, from London, UK, and her younger brother and sister arrived on Saturday at the resort, for a two-week stay.
Her father raised the alarm the following morning when she was found to be missing from her bedroom with the window open.
The Desun resort was opened in 2009 and there are only seven houses for tourists. No-one has gone missing from the resort before.
“This is the first case of missing person at this resort because if you heard the case of missing trekker in Gunung Berembun, it’s normal,” Kampung Kolam Air Pantai Tok Batin (village head) Ali Ngongor, said.
Ali, who is part of the search and rescue (SAR) mission, said it was impossible for the teenager to get into the thick jungle, let alone survive for a long time.
