Greta Thunberg shared the Greta Thunberg Helpline for adults angry at a child. The video was posted by Australian comedian Mark Humphries, who works for the national broadcaster ABC

The Climate Strike protest last Friday saw hundreds of thousands of young people protest and Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish schoolgirl, was invited to speak at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York.

“This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be standing here,” she said, addressing world leaders. “I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to me for hope? How dare you! You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”

It was a stinging rebuke and adults didn’t take kindly to such a reproach.

US President Donald Trump ignored her and then posted a pithy childish response to Thunberg’s speech.

Trump tweeted: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”

Michael Knowles on Fox News said: “If it were about science, it would be led by scientists, rather than by politicians and a mentally ill Swedish child who is being exploited by her parents and by the international left.”

RTÉ’s Ryan Tubridy commended the international marches for climate action on his Irish radio show but could not resist having a dig at Greta, noting her Asperger’s: “I just don’t think she should be put on a stage that size. It’s not good for her health, I think. Not good for her mental health or wellbeing. I just worry is she alright? Is she being minded?”

Dr Patrick Moore said on Australian radio station 2GB: “She’s a child in Sweden being used mercilessly by her parents and by society to bring about these school strikes for climate change.”

“I’ve seen her giving her statements… it’s absolutely clear that other people are writing the words that she is saying.

“And she has a mild form of autism so this is child abuse in the worst way.”

Dr Moore’s comments got worse:

“Whether it’s the Hitler Youth or whatever, it is really mainly fascists and communists that use children in this way as a front.

“They should be condemned outright by everyone in the world.”

Now Thunberg has endorsed a helpline available by Australian comedian Mark Humphries for their needs.

There’s even a great marketing video released for adults – be it “middle-aged men” or Twitter users whose profile picture is an egg – to help them come to terms with their rage against a child.

The video begins with a man sitting on a sofa. “Hi,” he began. “I’m a middle-aged man with an embarrassing problem. I get irrationally angry at a Swedish girl who wants to save the planet.”

The Climate Strikes continued today in New Zealand and the numbers were beyond expectations.
