Rapper Nicki Minaj is no more.

The 36-year-old, born Onika Tanya Maraj in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Queens, New York City, has declared her Twitter page to her 20 million followers that her rapping career is over.

Called one of the most influential female rap artists of all time by the New York Times, Dazed and Evening Standard, Minaj is in a relationship with registered sex offender Kenneth β€œZoo” Petty, who was convicted of attempted rape in 1995.

In June, Minaj confirmed that she had married Petty. In July, Minaj rapped on Chance the Rapper’s β€œZanies and Fools,” in which she says, β€œHe the Clyde to my Bonnie, ’bout to walk down the aisle and be a mommy.”

Minaj, known for her colourful costumes and wigs, has four top-five entries as a lead artist on the Billboard Hot 100: Super Bass in 2011, Starships in 2012, and Bang Bang and Anaconda, in 2014. She has won six American Music Awards, 11 BET Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards and a Billboard Women in Music Rising Star Award. She was nominated for a Grammy Award 10 times.

She has released four albums. His first album Pink Friday debuted at the second spot of the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, selling 375,000 copies within the first week of its release in November 2010. It reached number one spot six weeks later. Pink Friday went platinum for the third time in March 2016 and sold three million copies across the US, according to figures from the Recording Industry Association of America. The latest album Queen was released in August last year.

In 2014, she told Complex her biggest fear was becoming so focused on work that she would “forget to live my personal life to the fullest”.

“If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother,” she said.

“I have definitely put off the wife thing because I don’t want people in my business.

“I’d rather not do anything that’s going to be on paper but I definitely will be married before I have my baby.”
